A Community Centre Update

It’s really exciting to get to see the new centre going up and we’re beginning to get a sense of how the space could be used.

We hope to see as broad a range of activities as possible, which build on and compliment what’s already available locally. The survey we ran in December/January showed that over 2/3 of those who responded wanted to see sports and fitness clubs and classes. There was also huge support for a Cafe as a central meeting place for the community. While a lot of the design of the new Centre has been determined for some time, the research and feedback at events has helped to influence minor changes to the hall’s design and justify improvements to the kitchen facilities in response to the interest for a Café.

We’ve also been able to highlight some concerns to the Council and Developers, most notably the importance of parking provision. With School Square not yet open and limited parking available on site, this is something which needs urgent attention.

We’re really looking forward to it being ready later this year!
